Nationwide Bookkeeping & Accountants Services

Melissa North – Director & Registered BAS Agent

Melissa is not your ordinary bookkeeper. She has been living accounting and bookkeeping since she was 17 years old and enjoys empowering her clients around their finances from their business to individual lives.

Melissa’s speciality is small business and with her experience in the accounting industry, she’s dedicated her professional career to assisting businesses with improving their bottom line, understanding what the numbers mean and assisting with business and finance management. This includes but isn’t limited to – bookkeeping; management accounting; job costing and project reporting; wealth management; finance management; BAS services; business administration; policy and procedures development and implementation; KPI identification, implementation and management; staff reviews; grant acquittals; accounting and taxation; payroll tax; TPAR lodgements; software reviews; clean ups; bridging the gap between accountants and the finance team; and much, much more.

Melissa’s view is that finance is an integral part of our everyday lives and as such, we need to learn how to work with it so it works for us and what she enjoys most is diving deep into the figures to work out the whys, whats and hows.

As a passionate finance consultant, Melissa enjoys educating and inspiring others to take control over their business finances and bringing it back in black.

Melissa started off with GJ North & Associates in 2001, starting in administration, moving into bookkeeping and then on to accounting and taxation primarily for small business and related individuals. Some of the services she provided for her clients were preparation of financial statements and income tax returns, FBT calculations and reports, Payroll Tax, TPAR lodgement, etc. She has worked with a wide array of businesses including financial planners, engineers, mechanics, electricians, farmers, musicians, manufacturers, plumbers, aboriginal corporations and so much more.

In 2011, Melissa set up Nationwide Bookkeeping & Accountants Services to complement services provided and fill a gap in the market. She recognised that many businesses didn’t have a bookkeeper throughout the year to help them understand where their business was at, what cash was available for business and personal use and understand the numbers. The business owners did the books when they had time and at the end of the year, delivered shoeboxes or messy accounts that needed rebuilding into something that could be used to prepare Financial Statements and Tax Returns. Melissa also noticed that many business owners needed translation services between the accountant and them, so is able to act as a bridge between both parties. Not long after setting up Nationwide BAS, Melissa was extremely busy with property developers, plantations, business consultants, online health food retailers, cafes, pubs, and more.

As every client is different, Melissa has also worked with many different software solutions such as MYOB AccountRight, MYOB Essentials, Xero, Reckon One, Quickbooks, Saasu, MYOB AE (Solution6), Sybiz, Attache, Triumph, HandiTax and others. Melissa knows that software and services is not a one size fits all solution. In conjunction with the client, they work out what their goals are, what reporting is required for their internal and external needs, whether they need an industry specific solution, a simple bookkeeping solution or a combination of both.

Melissa currently holds a Cert III in Music Industry Skills, Cert IV in Accounting, is completing her Diploma in Accounting as well as Leadership and Management. She is a Fellow member of the Association of Accounting Technicians, member of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and holds her BAS Agent licence. Melissa has also been voluntary Treasurer of Melville-Cockburn Chamber of Commerce, Gynaecological Awareness Information Network and more recently, HealthHack under the auspices of Linux Australia. Melissa is currently open to additional Treasurer roles.

In January 2017, Melissa moved to Brisbane from Perth. In 2018, she moved in with her partner and became a step mum to 1 teenager and 1 almost teenager. Melissa’s life has completely changed from what she knew in Perth but is enjoying her new life especially with rain forest and mountain hikes, day drives in any direction into the countryside, cycling along the river with her partner and spending time with friends and family. And with all the changes that have occurred, Melissa is actively seeking to increase the client base in Perth, Brisbane and throughout Australia.
